VIDALIA – A Funeral Mass for Jerry James David, 89, of Vidalia, who departed this earthly life on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Vidalia. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. at the church. Celebrants will be Rev. Daniel O’Connor, Rev. Joseph Xavier Vethammanickam, and Rev. Paul Kunnumpurum.
Jerry was born on March 24, 1935, in New Roads, LA, the son of Morris Joseph David and Ermine Cline David.
Jerry worked at the Vidalia Fire Department and retired as Fire Chief after 34 years of service. He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club.
Jerry will be remembered for his generous servant’s heart, his infectious laugh, his twinkling blue eyes that mirrored his playful personality, and his love for God, his family, his many friends, and his country. He loved music, dancing, playing Bourre, gardening, and cooking for others. Jerry’s zest for life and hospitality were unmatched and he made sure everyone around him felt loved and well-fed.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Barbara Trindle David and Delores Legier David; sisters, Eunice Guidroz, Una Jarreau, Marie Cashio, and Jeanette Milletello; and brothers, Joseph David, Wallace David, and Ted David.
Jerry leaves to cherish his memory sons, Jerry Wayne David (Joan) and Robert James David (Mary); sisters, Theresa Lindsey and Amelia Aguillard; grandchildren, Andrew Joseph David (Sidney) and Joanna Leigh David Harrelson (Alex); great-grandchildren, Henry Alexander Harrelson, Andrew Joseph David, Jr., and Cooper James David; sisters-in-law, Kathleen David and Theresa David; and a host of beloved family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Vidalia Fire Department.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many caregivers at Camelot Leisure Living, the staff at Trinity Hospital, and especially to dear friends, Corinne Randazzo and Brenda Temple for their loving care and devotion.
