NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Ethel Green Scott, 67, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2024, in Natchez, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, at noon at the Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. and will continue on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024, from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Ethel was born on Feb. 1, 1957, in Natchez, the daughter of Thelma Morris Green and Walter Green. She was a 1975 graduate of North Natchez High School and furthered her education at Copiah-Lincoln Community College, Mississippi College (B.A.), and Alcorn State University (M.A.). She was an educator in the Natchez-Adams School District for 31 years.
Ethel was a member of Christian Hope Baptist Church, where she served as the director of the Senior Choir, Sunday School teacher, Youth Bible Study leader, Prayer Chain coordinator, Vacation Bible School volunteer, founder of the H.E.Y. Girls, member of the Missionary Ministry, and member of the Adams County Ministers’ Wives. She was also a member of the Former Mississippi Association of Educators. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing, writing, painting, and drawing.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Thelma M. Gordon, Patricia G. Murray, and Alethea C. Green; and brother, Walter Green, Jr.
Ethel leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, Rev. Dr. John Scott, Jr.; son, John Scott III; daughters, Juana S. Brandon and Tamla J. Hughes (Albert); sisters, Rose G. Merridith (James) and Artimese G. Evans; grandchildren, Kezia Brandon, Cyan Brandon, Albert J. Hughes, Alaina Hughes, and Nya Brandon; and a host of other loved ones and friends.
