FERRIDAY, La. — Delta Charter School will be on the road for the Bi-District Round of the 2024 LHSAA Select Division IV Playoffs as the No. 17 seed Storm take on the No. 16 seed Westminster Christian Academy Crusaders on Friday night.

Kickoff between Delta Charter (7-2) and Westminster Christian Academy of Opelousas (7-4) is scheduled for 7 p.m. Delta Charter would likely have hosted a playoff game in the Bi-District Round had it won at St. Frederick High School last Thursday night with the District 2-1A championship at stake. Instead, the Storm fell to the Warriors 43-0. Surprisingly, DCS did not drop from its No. 17 spot in the final Select Division IV power ratings of the regular season.

“Power ratings are kind of fickle. You never know what you’re going to get,” Storm head coach Blake Wheeler said. “I kind of figured we would be in this position.”

Westminster Christian had an opportunity to finish in second place in District 5-1A had it won at St. Edmund Catholic School last Thursday night. But that would not be the case as the Crusaders fell to the Fighting Blue Jays 42-27 to finish third in its district.

Wheeler said on Wednesday morning that practice has been good so far, but the inclement weather expected to hit the Miss-Lou could throw a curveball into what the Storm will be working on that day.

As for what Delta Charter is working on in practice this week to get ready for Westminster Christian, Wheeler said, “we’re working on getting more physical.”

The Crusaders could be as tough of a challenge for the Storm as St. Frederick was last week.

“They’re a really good team. Fast and physical. They’ve got a lot of good players. We’ve just got to play sound,” Wheeler said.

When asked what kind of offense and defense Delta Charter would see from the Crusaders, Wheeler said, “More power run (on offense). Defensively, they’re a 4-3.”

As for who will need to step up and have a big game for the Storm to emerge victorious on the road and advance to the regional round and take on No. 1 seed Vermillion Catholic School, Wheeler said, “Tyrin Singleton’s probably going to have a good game. And our defensive front.”
