NATCHEZ — When they meet on Tuesday, the Natchez Mayor and Board of Aldermen will have an abundance of bids to approve and change orders to bids to approve, dealing with a variety of capital projects in the city.
The board’s first meeting of November will be at 11 a.m. at the Council Chambers, 115 S. Pearl St., across from City Hall.
Those projects include:
• Approval of a pay estimate for the Columbarium Walks and Landscape Project in the Natchez City Cemetery. The columbarium — a place to inter cremated remains — is under construction in the cemetery.
• A change order for the Concord Drainage Improvement Project at the intersection of Concord and LaSalle streets.
• Approval of bid package number 5 for the Natchez Convention Center. Renovation of the convention center began in August.
• Approval of bid package number 3 for the Natchez City Auditorium. Renovation of the auditorium is included in $6 million in general obligation bonds the city approved for capital improvements at the convention center, city auditorium and civic center.
• Approval of “quote bids” for lounge furniture for the Duncan Park Clubhouse, which is being renovated. Quote bids are allowed in certain instances when public officials do not advertise for bids. The project is being funded through money from the 2021 recreation general obligation bonds and the 2022 capital improvements general obligation bonds.
Those bonds are being repaid using money the city receives from taxes paid to the state on purchases residents make online.
• Approval to accept quotes to mow, trim and remove debris at certain adjudicated properties in the city.
Aldermen are expected to discuss the Silver Street Brick Retaining Wall Rehabilitation Project, the American Rescue Plan Act and Local Fiscal Recovery Fund public law number 117-2 of March 11, 2021.
During his report, Mayor Dan Gibson will seek approval to spend up to $1,000 on breakfast and incidentals related to the joint Legislative Tourism Retreat, set for Nov. 18 and 19 in Natchez.
He also will ask for permission to hire two private security guards to work along the Bluff and downtown during the holidays, effective immediately. For several years, the city has hired security guards to supplement officers during the busy holiday season.
Also, City Clerk Megan McKenzie will ask for approval on the interlocal agreement with Adams County regarding Emergency Dispatch Consolidation and the 19th amended Interlocal Agreement between the city and Adams County for fire protection.
McKenzie will also seek approval for Gibson to execute lease documents for the budgeted new vehicles for the city’s planning, IT, and Inspection departments and the city hall courier.
Each alderman will be given an opportunity to discuss business and give a report on what’s happening in his or her ward.
Ward 1 Alderwoman Valencia Hall is expected to discuss the election committee during the city business portion of Tuesday’s meeting.
