MONROE, La. — What was supposed to be a battle between the two best teams in LHSAA District 2-1A ended up being a blowout as the St. Frederick High School Warriors defeated the Delta Charter School Storm 43-0 last Thursday night to claim the district championship.

The loss snapped Delta Charter’s five-game winning streak while St. Frederick extended its winning streak to six in a row since a tough 28-27 loss at Bastrop High School on Friday, Sept. 27 — which was also the last time the Warriors failed to score at least 40 points.

“Didn’t play very well. They were more physical than we were. Made too many mistakes,” Storm head coach Blake Wheeler said.

St. Frederick (8-2, 5-0) scored 13 points in the first quarter and 14 points in the second quarter to go ahead 27-0 at halftime. The Warriors added to their lead in the second half with six points in the third quarter and 10 points in the fourth quarter.

As to how the loss will affect where both St. Frederick and Delta Charter (7-2, 4-1) ends up being seeded will have to wait a little longer. The Warriors entered this game ranked No. 6 in the Select Division IV power ratings while the Storm was at No. 17 in the Select Division IV power ratings.

“We won’t know until know until the final results come in, which will be in another week because it’s been delayed by the LHSAA (Louisiana High School Athletic Association) because of a lawsuit by University Lab,” Wheeler said.
