NATCHEZ — As Natchez High School senior member of the Golden Flashers’ Color Guard Justice Allen prepares to wave her flag goodbye to high school, she looks forward to a future career as a family nurse.
“I want to be like a family nurse practitioner,” Allen said. “I love taking care of people, and I love working with little kids. My grandmother (Barbara Myles) was a CNA and worked with older people and kind of inspired me in a way because she likes taking care of people as well.”
Allen, the daughter of Tonisha Lewis and Justin Allen, is the National Honors Society and National Beta Club president at NHS and also a member of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America Club and National Society of High School Scholars.
Her other leadership roles at NHS include Student Ambassador and member of the Student Advisory Committee, in which she advocates for her peers in adult meetings and guides campus visitors around the capital of Bulldog Nation, the NHS campus.
Allen is also a member of the ACT 20-point club, while still waiting on the results of the last ACT test she took on Oct. 26, she said.
“I’m hoping for a 25 to 30 score — somewhere in that range,” she said. “I know I want to go to college, but haven’t decided yet where. I like William Carey a lot, and I’m thinking about going there.”
As a dual enrollment student with some college credits already, Allen is well on her way.
Allen said one of her favorite hobbies is reading. “Louisiana’s Way Home” by Kate DiCamillo, author of “Because of Winn-Dixie” and “Tale of Despereaux,” is one of her favorites, she said.
Her other favorite hobby is waving the flag in the color guard, she said. As part of the NHS flag team, she attends every football game, parade and Battle of the Bands, “Every Friday night and sometimes Saturday,” she said.
Allen said her biggest motivators are her mom and God.
“My mom is very supportive, motivates me and lets me know that I could do anything that I put my mind to,” she said. “And I love God. That’s a big part of my motivation.”
Allen is a member of Marble Stone Baptist Church, where she sings in the church, and has been involved in Youth Leadership Natchez.
