VIDALIA, La. — A voting precinct in Vidalia, particularly at the hydroelectric building, lost power for about two hours Tuesday morning along with neighboring parts of town amid the ongoing presidential election.
However, election workers assure that this had no effect on the votes counted at the polls.
Concordia Parish uses voting machines that run on battery power in the event of power loss, and the power loss didn’t last long enough for those batteries to run down, according to the Concordia Parish Clerk of Court’s Office. As of just before noon Tuesday, no parish precinct had reported any issues at the polls.
Vidalia Mayor Buz Craft said the loss of power Tuesday had been caused by a broken cross arm on a pole around Dandridge Street.
The back side of Dandridge could still be without power for up to 5 hours, though everywhere else should have restored power by now, Craft said.
Concordia Parish Registrar of Voters Golda Ensminger said if a person has any questions about their precinct or where they should vote, they can still contact the Registrar of Voters Office at 318-336-7770.
