FERRIDAY, La. — In one of the craziest high school football games this area has seen in years, the Delta Charter School Storm upset the General Trass High School Panthers 84-82 in three overtimes lFriday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A showdown.

At one point, General Trass led Delta Charter 44-20 in the second half before the Storm rallied to force overtime. But it took three extra sessions and a key stop by Delta Charter’s defense to finally end this amazing game between two teams trying to stay atop the district standings.

“It was wild. It was the wildest game I’ve ever been a part of,” Storm head coach Blake Wheeler said. “Back and forth all night. Whoever could get a stop would win and thankfully that was us.”

After the Panthers (5-3, 2-1) scored a touchdown in overtime No. 3 to make it an 84-82 game, they went for the two-point conversion on a pass play. However, the Storm’s defense knocked the ball away and the game was finally over.

“It’s tough that one team had to win and one team had to lose,” Wheeler said. “General Trass was great sportsmen. They played incredibly hard. The two teams had over 1,100 yards of offense combined. There 198 snaps on the night combined. It was high emotions all night. Two teams full of warriors that battled to the end.”

Wheeler gave high praise to senior quarterback Will Wiley, whom Wheeler said stepped up for the Storm and had control of the offense. He also gave credit to the offensive line for blocking well not only in the passing game, but in the running game as well.

“Jalen Ivy, Landry Freeman, Jace Neal, Jeffrey Cook, Timothy Harrell, Titus Harrell, and our fullback, Dalin Gholston. He moved from left tackle to fullback,” Wheeler said.

Special teams also turned out to be an integral part of the game thanks to senior Gunner Smith.

“Gunner Smith had two onside kicks that swayed the momentum of the game,” Wheeler said.
