As the Nov. 5 general election nears, residents throughout the Miss-Lou are readying to head to the polls. However, for voters who may be unsure of their polling place after recent redistricting, no traditional map is available to represent where Adams County and Concordia Parish residents should vote.

However, election workers said thanks to technology and telephones, information about whether a person is registered to vote and where their voting precinct is located is readily available.

Adams County

Adams County voters will join the rest of the country on Tuesday, Nov. 5, in voting to choose a new president. Adams County voters will also choose a U.S. Senator and U.S. House Representative for District Two, as well as a Supreme Court Justice.

Redistricting took place in 2022, changing the voting precincts and district lines for some voters throughout Adams County. And, to complicate matters, voters will be heading to the county precincts to vote – not the city precincts used in the June municipal elections.

Voters who have access to the internet can use the Mississippi Secretary of State’s voting website to make certain they are registered as well as find their voting place. That website address is yallvote.ms. At that website, you can click on My Election Day and enter your address to find your polling place, a sample ballot and current office holders.

In addition, Tracy Gaude, an Adams County Election Commissioner, said anyone can reach the Adams County Election Commission office from now through election day by calling 601-445-7905.

“I want to point out that the election this past June was a city election and people voted at their city precinct. This November’s election is a county election and voters will need to go to their county voting precinct,” Gaude said. “This can be confusing to voters as the two are usually not the same. Anyone can call the elections office at 601-445-7905 to confirm their location.”

Each of Adams County’s five supervisor districts has four polling precincts each except for District 1, which has three polling precincts.

Similarly, Louisiana voters with internet access can easily view their sample ballot, find their voter registration status and learn their polling place by entering their information at voterportal.sos.la.gov.

Those who cannot can always contact the Registrar of Voters office at 318-336-7770 or visit the office at the Concordia Parish Courthouse, 4001 Carter St., Suite K, to find answers to any election questions they may have.

“That’s what we’re here for,” said Golda Ensminger, Concordia Parish voter registrar.

In addition to choosing a new U.S. President, voters in Concordia Parish will also choose who will represent the 5th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives and will vote yes or no to a constitutional amendment to amend Article VII, Section 10.2 to include revenues that are generated from alternative or renewable energy production sources to be deposited and credited by the treasurer to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Fund.

Precincts 1-1, 1-3, 1-4, and a part of precinct 1-2 will also have a special election to elect James Skipper or David Turner, both Independent, to Justice of the Peace in District 1.

Part of precinct 2-1 will elect no party candidate Kevin “Cajun” Friloux or Independent Sheila Trust Gardner to Justice of the Peace in District 2.

Precinct 4-1 will have two special elections to elect Independent “Connie” Adair or no-party candidate Veller Ray Carroll to be the next mayor of the Village of Ridgecrest and Democrat Gerald “G” White or Independent Don Lucas Williams as Alderman of the Village of Ridgecrest.

Same as Adams County, there has been redistricting in Concordia Parish in 2022 as a result of population shifts indicated by the 2020 decennial United States Census, which will shift some voters to a new voting district. Additionally, because of these population changes, the parish acted to combine several voting precincts and relocate their polling places as some precincts lacked the minimum 200 registered voters to have a precinct.

The parish is now divided into five districts with 18 different voting precincts, three of which share a polling location. They are as follows.

1-1, Ferriday Health Unit, 905 Mickey Gilley Ave.
