COVINGTON, LA – Mr. John Albert Schmolke a resident of Covington, LA passed away on Oct. 15, 2024, at the age of 77.

He leaves behind his beloved children Tina Guidry (Brian Newman), Michael Schmolke (Jamie), Tracy Ross (Bruce), his siblings; Jerry Schmolke (Patty) and Rosemary Pitts. He also leaves behind to cherish his loving memories his grandchildren, Megan Ott (Chad), Michael Matthews Jr. (Stacie), Hunter Gremillion (Skylar), John Luke Schmolke, Matthew Schmolke, Carl “Brandon” Ross (Annie), Sara Ross (Braden), and Bryce Dale Ross, as well as five great-grandchildren and one due in December as well, his family by love Sissy and Raymond Stermer and family. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Schmolke and Josepine Schmolke Fitzmorris, and his siblings, Margaret Ruberts, Edward (Junior), Frank, and Terry Schmolke.

Mr. John joined the Marines when he was 17 years old and was stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He went on to serve in the Vietnam War. During his commitment and passion to serve and honor his country, he was ranked as a Sergeant and awarded the National Defense Medal, the Vietnamese Campaign Medal, a Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and a Rifle Sharp Shooter Badge.

Mr. John was a very loving, caring, strong man and an amazing father. He was devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren showing them love and strength every day. As he obtained many accomplishments throughout his lifetime, his family was his biggest of all and he loved them dearly. To them, he was not only a war hero, he was their hero.

Pallbearers are Michael Schmolke, Michael Matthews Jr., Carl Brandon Ross, Hunter Gremillion, John Luke Schmolke, Colby Stermer.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service on Monday, Oct. 21, 2024, at 11 a.m. with visitation starting at 9 a.m. in the Chapel of Bagnell & Son Funeral Home, 75212 Hwy 437 Covington, LA 70435. Family and friends are welcome to attend a Graveside Committal Service at 2 p.m. in the National Cemetery, 303 W. Mt. Pleasant Zachary Road, Zachary, LA 70791.
