NATCHEZ — A man who mistakenly shot another in Natchez in November 2023 has been convicted of manslaughter.
Adrian Brown, age 19, was convicted on Tuesday and is to be scheduled for sentencing later this month following a pre-sentencing investigation.
District Attorney Tim Cotton said the jury deliberated for approximately 40 minutes before delivering a guilty verdict.
Terry Lewis, age 20, was shot to death when he exited a vehicle at a friend’s house on Ridgewood Road at 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2023, in a case of mistaken identity.
Commander Jerry Ford of Natchez Police Department said at the time Brown was also visiting the friend’s home. Ford said Brown told police he and two other men who were with him in one vehicle got scared when Lewis came up behind them in another vehicle and exited wearing a “hood over his head.”
“They thought it was someone who was coming to shoot or kill them. They panicked and Mr. Brown shot him,” Ford said at the time.
