NATCHEZ — Adams County Christian School senior quarterback Coleman Carter overcame a couple of early interceptions with three touchdowns and 332 yards of total offense as the host Rebels defeated the Amite School Center Rebels 38-8 on Friday night.

It was the homecoming game for ACCS at Bobby Marks Stadium and Carter got off to a shaky start with two passes that were picked off by Amite School Center in the early minutes of the game. Thankfully for him, the defense forced a turnover on downs after the first INT and recovered a fumble right after his second pick.

“He was a little excited. We made a couple of throws that are uncharacteristic of him. Amite (School Center) made a couple of good plays,” ACCS assistant coach Matthew Freeman said. “He was able to settle in and he got into a good groove.”

Adrian Walker scored on a 13-yard run and Carter threw a two-point conversion pass to Riley Roach to give ACCS an 8-0 lead at the 6:13 mark of the first quarter. Carter then threw touchdown passes of 38 yards to CJ Ferguson and 48 yards to Parker Roach and after each touchdown connected with Cedric Owens for the two-point conversion, giving the host Rebels a 24-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter.

Then with 8:57 to go in the second quarter, Sean Kerry Cothern scored on a 15-yard run and for the third time Carter threw a two-point conversion pass to Owens for a 32-0 lead. Levi Beesley had a 17-yard TD reception from Carter with 4:37 remaining until halftime for a 38-0 lead.

As a team, ACCS ran for 246 yards and Carter threw for 224 yards on 10-for-16 passing. Carter also had 108 yards on just four carries while Walker had three carries for 32 yards and Cothern had three carries for 37 yards.

“Team came out and played well. We were wanting to be balanced tonight. Wanted to establish the run. Wanted to make some good throws. It worked out well for us,” Freeman said. “Defense did really good tonight.”

With a running clock being used in the second half, Amite School Center (0-8) scored its only touchdown on a 12-yard run by Ethan Andrews at the 7:25 mark of the third quarter. Will Walsh added a two-point conversion pass to Dreher Van Norman.

Even though the visiting Rebels from Liberty did have 10 first downs, they were held to 153 yards of total offense and turned the ball over four times.

The host Rebels’ defense was led by Cothern with four tackles while Aiden Roche’ and Dalton Pugh had three tackles each. Ja’Coby Gaines had two interceptions while Riley Roach and Parker Dossett each had a fumble recovery.

ACCS (6-3) will be on the road next Friday when it takes on St. Joseph Catholic School of Greenville with kickoff at 7 p.m.
