MONROE, La. — Coming off an impressive win at home over Ringgold High School a week earlier, Block High School was looking to keep that momentum going on Thursday night against St. Frederick High School.
Unfortunately for the Block Bears, that would not be the case as the fell on the road to the St. Frederick Warriors 43-0 in the LHSAA District 2-1A opener for both teams at Chip Luffey Field on the campus of St. Frederick High School.
“We played a really good team. They’re well-disciplined. They have some good athletes,” Block head coach Samel Washington said. “I feel like we could’ve played better. Had a couple of calls that I thought were bad that could’ve gone either way. We got behind the chains some and we couldn’t get any momentum going.”
Block (1-5, 0-1) will be on the road next Friday when the Bears travel to Lake Providence, La. to take on district newcomer General Trass High School at 7 p.m. The General Trass Panthers, which dropped down from Class 2A to Class 1A, improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in district play with a 44-8 road win over the Tensas High School Panthers last Thursday night.
“We have four more games down the stretch. Hopefully, we can win a couple of them and get in the playoffs,” Washington said. “We’re just trying to make it through the season.”
