The National Hurricane Center released the first advisory for the tropical storm at 11 am Saturday. The tropical depression that has been named Milton has developed into a tropical storm with winds of 40 miles per hour. Milton originated as a tropical depression, but has since gained strength. Tropical Storm Milton is 210 miles north-northeast of Veracruz Mexico and 350 miles west of Progreso Mexico, with maximum sustained wind of 40 mph. It’s moving 3 mph to the north-northeast. Tropical Storm Milton is forecast to strengthen.

The system, which has been named Milton, has become a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph after undergoing intensification from a tropical depression.

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND:

SURF: Swells generated by the system will begin to affect the coast of the southwestern Gulf of Mexico today. These swells are expected to spread northward and eastward along much of the Gulf Coast by early next week. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
