WOODVILLE — Wilkinson County Christian Academy senior quarterback Jacob Sessions accounted for three touchdowns and the Rams’ defense forced seven turnovers in a 55-14 homecoming win over the Tensas Academy Chiefs last Friday night to stay undefeated in MAIS 8-Man District 3-1A.

Sessions threw for 123 yards on 5-for-7 passing, including a 58-yard touchdown pass to Easton Buteaux and a 24-yard TD pass to Cole Partridge on back-to-back scoring drives early in the second quarter. That gave WCCA a 28-7 lead. Sessions also scored on a one-yard run with 5:27 left in the first quarter.

The game got off to a wild start. Charles Grezaffi returned the opening kickoff 54 yards for a touchdown just 11 seconds into the contest. Sessions’ two-point conversion run gave the Rams an 8-0 lead. Then Tensas Academy’s Tobie Matthews answered by returning the ensuing kickoff 53 yards for a touchdown, but the two-point conversion run attempt was no good as the Chiefs (0-8, 0-1) trailed 8-6.

That would be the closest the Chiefs would get to the Rams. WCCA scored the next seven touchdowns to take over the game. In addition to his TD reception in the second quarter, Partridge also had a 30-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter. Grezaffi’s two-yard touchdown run, his second score of the game, came with 3:15 to go until halftime for a 42-6 halftime lead.

Dax Doyle, normally one of the Rams’ leading tacklers on defense, got in on the act on the other side as he scored on a 17-yard run nearly midway through the fourth quarter. Napoleon Howard scored on a five-yard run in the second quarter.

In addition to his kickoff return in the first quarter, Matthews scored on a 55-yard run with 2:55 left in the ball.

Buteaux led the Rams in receptions with 84 yards on two catches while Partridge had one catch for 39 yards. Partridge also had two carries for 45 yards as well as a fumble recovery on defense.

WCCA’s defense not only forced a lot of turnovers, but it also held Tensas Academy to just 112 yards of total offense. Howard had eight tackles and one interception while Grezaffi had seven tackles, two sacks, and one fumble recovery.

Tucker Freeman had six tackles and two sacks while Gauge Metz had six tackles, one sack, and one fumble recovery. Buteaux and Doyle each had one interception while Beau Deville had five tackles and one fumble recovery.

WCCA (6-2, 2-0) travels to Coushatta, La. to take on the Riverdale Academy Rebels next Friday at 7 p.m. with a lot at stake. If the Rams win, they are the district champions. But if Riverdale wins, the door is still open for the Rebels to win the district title.
