CLINTON, La. — Silliman Institute junior quarterback Parker Nettles threw four touchdown passes as the Wildcats defeated the Cathedral High School Green Wave 41-20 last Friday night in an MAIS District 3-5A game.
Two of Nettles’ touchdown passes went to sophomore wide receiver Brody Diel. The first one went for seven yards at the 4:15 mark of the first quarter which gave Silliman (5-2, 2-1) an early 6-0 lead. The second one came with 5:55 left in the third quarter that gave the Wildcats a commanding 28-0 lead.
Elliot Fudge had a 51-yard touchdown pass from Nettles after a Cathedral turnover with four minutes left until halftime for a 21-0 lead Wildcats lead. Then Nettles threw a six-yard TD pass to a wide-open Elliot Goux in the back of the end zone. That gave them a 34-0 lead. But the extra point attempt by Will Blanchard was low and no good, which meant no running clock.
Junior Tristan Fondren started at quarterback for Cathedral, but fellow junior Tralyn Cusic came in after halftime and played the entire second half at that position. He ended up throwing three touchdown passes, all of them in the fourth quarter – two of them to Terrance Lee that went 33 and 66 yards, respectively. Cusic also threw a 10-yard TD pass to Grayson Gay early in that quarter.
The Wildcats were only up 6-0 at the end of the first quarter, but they scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and two more touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away from the Green Wave. Defensively for Cathedral, Troy Dillon had one interception.
Cathedral (3-5, 1-3) steps out of district next Friday night when they travel to Madison to take on St. Joseph Catholic School of Madison. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
