NATCHEZ — Parklane Academy senior running back Jax Toler scored three first-half touchdowns as the Parklane Academy Pioneers rolled to a 35-6 win over Cathedral High School Friday night in the Green Wave’s annual “Pink Wave Game.”

Cathedral’s players wore their pink jerseys to honor family members who have been or are continuing to battle various types of cancer – even those who either succumbed to the disease or who beat it.

But in this important MAIS District 3-5A game for both teams held at Ken Beesley Sr. Field at D’Evereux Stadium, it was Parklane Academy (5-2, 2-0) that dominated the first half and cruised from there. Toler had touchdown runs of three and two yards in the first quarter to help give the Pioneers a 14-0 lead about midway through the first quarter.

On the other hand, Cathedral’s offense could not get into any kind of rhythm against a tough Pioneers defense. After Parklane went up 21-0 early in the second quarter, Toler scored on a 23-yard run for a 28-0 lead. The Pioneers scored later on in that same quarter to take a 35-0 lead into halftime.

With a running clock going in the second half, neither team did much offensively until Cathedral avoided being shut out when Jashaun Smoot scored on a five-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

Cathedral (3-4, 1-2) will travel to Clinton, La., to take on district foe Silliman Institute next Friday at 7 p.m. in pretty much a must-win game for the Green Wave to keep their diminishing playoff hopes alive.
