NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff’s Office, which has taken the lead on investigating an arson of a Vidalia Police Officer’s Natchez home on July 26, says the investigation remains active and ongoing though no one has been arrested to date.

“We are still receiving tips that we are investigating and that is pretty much where we’re at,” Sheriff Travis Patten said. “We’re in the process of corroborating the tips that we have gotten through Crime Stoppers since last week — new information that has given us names, but we’re collecting more evidence to corroborate them. The case is not closed by any means. This is still an active investigation, and we’re grateful for the tips that came in.”

Two weeks ago, the sheriff’s office sent out a reminder asking for the public’s help identifying a dark-colored pickup truck and a person from a black and white security footage, stating that the truck and person were involved in the July 26 arson that took place at the home of Vidalia Police Department’s Patrol Captain Craig Godbold on July 26 near the Montebello neighborhood in Natchez.

Godbold, his wife Teresa, and four children were inside the home when it was set on fire just before midnight. It apparently started in the carport near their cars.

Crime Stoppers is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this crime.

Patten and his deputies ask anyone with information to call the Adams County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Operations Group at 601-442-8333 or Southwest Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 888-442-5001.

Only tips submitted through Crime Stoppers are eligible for cash rewards.
