FERRIDAY – Funeral services for Pinkey Shepherd, 92 years old, of Ferriday, will be held on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at 1 p.m. from Rose Hill Baptist Church, 267 Doty Road in Ferriday under the directions of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday. Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery. Pastor Richard Jones of Houston, TX will officiate.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4 until 6 p.m.
Pinkey Shepherd was born to the late James and Maple Shepherd in Ferriday (Lake St. John) and passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her residence. She was a loving mother and matriarch, devoted to her family.
She is survived by her children: Edmund “Mickey” Shepherd and his wife, Geneva of Houston, TX; Jimmy “Lil Bro” Shepherd of Ferriday; Earl “Bubba” Shepherd and his wife, Belinda of Phenix, AL; Vernita (Bernestein) Perkins, widow of the late Arthur Perkins. Additionally, Darton Bennett, a great nephew whom she reared as her own son, is among her dearly loved survivors. She also leaves behind her sister, Elizabeth Shepherd Williams of Ferriday, as well as a beautiful expansive family of 14 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward her legacy, love, and wisdom. Pinkey is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends who loved her dearly.
Preceding Pinkey in death were her beloved siblings, Ethel Washington, James “Shelly” Shepherd, Annie S. Brown, Irene S. Stephenson, Bernice Shepherd, and Bernard Shepherd.
