NATCHEZ — Cathedral High School trailed Brookhaven Academy early in the third quarter, but
three scoring drives by the Green Wave allowed them to escape with a 24-21 win over the
Cougars in Cathedral’s homecoming game last Friday night at D’Evereux Stadium.
Cathedral led 24-14 with less than two minutes before quarterback Tristan Fondren, trying to
run for a first down to run out the clock, inexplicably fumbled the ball and Brookhaven
Academy got the ball back. The Cougars scored on a one-yard run by Braden Revere and Reeves
Lindley made the extra point with 32 seconds left.
The Cougars then tried an onside kick, but the kick went over everyone’s head and out of
bounds, giving the Green Wave the ball. All they had to do was take one knee and the game
was finally over.
This was a big win for head coach Josh Loy’s Green Wave team as they could not have afforded
to drop to 0-2 in MAIS District 3-5A. However, Brookhaven Academy fell to 1-5 overall and 0-3
in district play.
Cathedral (3-3, 1-1) plays host to district foe Parklane Academy in the Green Wave’s annual
“Pink Wave Game” next Friday at 7 p.m.
