PORT GIBSON – Graveside services for Raymond Alvin Mercer, 77, of Natchez, who passed away on Sept. 16, 2024, will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2024, at Wintergreen Cemetery at 10 a.m. with Brother Randy Priest officiating under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home.
Raymond was born on Aug. 23, 1947, to Robert Alton and Lillian Ileana Mercer. He served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles during the Vietnam War from 1968–1969 earning several medals. He was a very proud veteran. Raymond, affectionately known as “PawPaw” by his grandchildren, loved to be around his family and friends. He was always working in his yard making everything beautiful. He would sit in his chair and watch the deer come out every day.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Betty Lou Smith.
Raymond leaves to cherish his memories son, Harley Mercer, and wife, Amanda L. Mercer; two grandchildren, Katelyn and John Mercer; two sisters, Gloria (Randy) Priest and Nancy Mercer; one brother, Kenneth (Angela) Mercer; one brother-in-law, Charles Ray Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
