VIDALIA, La. — The first annual Watson Strong Color Fun Run proved to be a success as hundreds throughout the Miss Lou gathered in memory of Vidalia’s little superhero Watson Calhoun, and raised funds to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Watson Strong Foundation.

Social media flooded Saturday morning with participant’s photos, who all seemed to enjoy the event. The walk or run started at 9 a.m. Saturday across from Vidalia Upper Elementary School and along Concordia Avenue.

Calhoun succumbed to a long battle with brain cancer a month after his fourth birthday, on Sept. 10, 2023.

Now, he is “forever 4” and no longer hurting after his health had been a roller coaster ride for most of his life, said fundraiser organizer Katherine Green. Proceeds from the fundraiser will be evenly split between the Watson Strong Foundation and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, helping other families fighting similar fights as Calhoun’s.

Individuals who’d like to support the cause but were unable to participate on race day can Venmo @Watsonstrong. Donations are tax-deductible.
