NATCHEZ — Robert Bradford, director of Adams County Emergency Management, said storm preparations are continuing today.
However, Bradford said the latest storm forecast has the remnants of Hurricane Francine headed to the east of Natchez and Adams County after it makes landfall sometime today along the Louisiana Gulf coast.
According to the National Weather Service Jackson, Natchez and Adams County are no longer in the elevated threat area. As of noon on Wednesday, Concordia Parish was moved out of the storm watch.
“Right now, it looks like the storm has shifted toward the east. The trackers are showing us just to the west of it. Because of that, we are just anticipating heavy rain. The tropical storm winds they have predicted have decreased down to about 25 miles per hour,” Bradford said. “Right now, we are just watching and monitoring things.”
Adams County has delayed the opening of county offices on Thursday morning because of the pending storm.
“We will get out in daylight and will be traveling the roads to make sure trees are not down and people can get to work,” he said.
Bradford asked residents to be patient in the storm’s aftermath.
“Don’t try to drive through flooded roads. And do not try to move trees by yourself. They may have power lines down in them,” Bradford said. “If you see a downed tree, please call 911 and report it.”
The Adams County Safe Room will open Wednesday at 7 p.m. for those who need it. Residents are asked to bring their own blankets and essential items. Small pets are welcome, but they must be kept in kennels.
