UPDATE: More schools close in anticipation of tropical weather

NATCHEZ — Cathedral and Adams County Christian School join those that will be closed on Thursday because of Tropical Storm Francine, which is expected to make landfall as a possible Category 2 hurricane between Wednesday and Thursday.

ACCS is not in session on Wednesday, but aftercare may still be provided but close early due to the storm. ACCS will close school on Thursday and expects students to attend school virtually and check Google classroom for assignments.

Cathedral will have early school dismissal at 2 p.m. on Wednesday with after school care and activities canceled and will be closed on Thursday, Sept. 12. Students will also be expected to participate in virtual instruction, check emails, FACTS lesson plans and Google classroom for assignments.

Concordia Parish School District Superintendent Toyua Bachus announced that all Concordia Parish public schools would be closed and all extracurricular activities canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 11, and a determination would be made regarding school closure on Thursday, Sept. 12, no later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Students will be expected to attend school on Oct. 7 as a make up day, added Bachus.

Natchez Adams School District previously announced an earlier dismissal for schools on Wednesday and that schools would be closed on Thursday. Instant Impact Global Prep and Holy Family followed a similar schedule as NASD.

Alcorn State University announced the closure of the Natchez, Vicksburg and Lorman campuses on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and said classes would resume starting at 12 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12.

The Town of Vidalia, which has issued a local emergency declaration, will close all business departments at noon on Wednesday and give weather responders time to rest in preparation for the storm during the night, Mayor Buz Craft announced during Tuesday’s Aldermen meeting.
