NATCHEZ — Oakwood is a Greek Revival planter’s cottage on Upper Kingston Road that was constructed around 1837 for Hardy Sojourner and his wife Missouri Thomas Sojourner. Virginia Sojourner Harrigan, a descendant of Hardy and Missouri, restored the house in 1985, removing the Queen Anne-style wrap-around gallery that was added in the 1880s. The Historic Natchez Foundation acted as a consultant for the restoration and listed the house in the National Register of Historic Places. The Sojourner family still owns the house today. These pictures are part of a series of before and after photographs that will run in The Natchez Democrat every Wednesday during 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Historic Natchez Foundation.
