NATCHEZ — A man who called 911 to report he’d been “lost in the woods for two days” is expected to live after being transported to the hospital following a multiple-agency search effort, authorities said.
Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said he could not provide any details as to the man’s condition after being transported to the hospital because of HIPAA laws but that he was alert and stable when transported by AMR away from the 14 Frederick Road residence on Saturday evening.
A search involving multiple ensued for 45-year-old Lawrence Daniel Baker on Saturday afternoon after Baker called 911 at approximately 1:20 p.m. and said he had been lost in the woods near 36 Pond Meadows Road for two days.
Adams County E911 dispatchers made later attempts to connect with Baker, but his phone went dead. Authorities were later able to track his location to the area of Pond Meadow and Greenfield roads where they began a sweep of the woods.
Patten said that the search included Adams County Sheriff’s Office, Adams County Emergency Management, Adams Search and Rescue, and Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries.
Patten said Lawrence Daniel Baker looked to be “in bad shape” when authorities arrived at the 14 Frederick Road residence around 6:45 p.m. He added AMR had been contacted to transport Baker to the hospital.
“He had green on his feet like he’d been walking barefoot through the woods,” Patten added Monday morning. “I do know he is alive and expected to live but the full extent of his condition is unclear. Whether he was truly lost or not is not for us to say. We are extremely grateful he was found regardless of whether it was in a house or in the woods and that we were able to get him medical treatment.”
