NATCHEZ — Adams County Fire Services Coordinator Darryl Smith asked the Mississippi Forestry Commission to declare a burn ban in Adams County several weeks ago due to extreme fire hazards caused by lack of rainfall and very dry conditions in Adams County.
Several grass fires later, Smith received word on Thursday that the burn ban was approved.
Smith said Friday morning the county’s burn ban continues to Sept. 5.
“Unless we get rain, we will be seeking to extend that. And we do not have rain in the forecast,” Smith said.
Smith said the following activities are exempt from the burn ban: outdoor burning of materials other than rubbish where the fuel being burned is contained in an incinerator, outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills, or barbecue pits that have a total fuel area of three feet or less in diameter and two feet or less in height, used for pleasure, cooking, warmth, or similar purposes.
All other burning is prohibited until at least Sept. 5.
