JACKSON — Wilkinson County Christian School senior quarterback Jacob Sessions accounted for five total touchdowns and over 200 total yards of offense as the Rams defeated the Hillcrest Christian School Cougars 53-26 in MAIS 8-Man football action last Friday night.
Sessions had 12 carries for 111 yards and three touchdown runs. He also completed three of nine passes for 99 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Both of his touchdown passes went to Wesley Sanchez — 69 yards in the first quarter and 27 yards in the third quarter.
The first quarter alone took over one hour to play. Thankfully, the rest of the game went at least somewhat quicker. Cole Partridge scored on a five-yard run and Napoleon Howard scored on an eight-yard run go give WCCA an early 13-0 lead.
Howard had himself a big game as well as he had seven carries for 134 yards and one touchdown. Sanchez had two catches for 96 yards and the two TDs.
Hillcrest Christian scored on a 10-yard run, but the try for two on a pass failed and the Cougars still trailed 13-6. The Rams with Sessions’ long TD pass to Sanchez and Sessions ran in for two to give them a 21-6 lead.
After the Cougars scored on a 38-yard TD pass with 3:41 still left in the first quarter, the Rams answered when Sessions scored on a 65-yard touchdown run. Charles Grezaffi added the two-point conversion run to give the Rams a 29-12 at the end of the quarter.
The Cougars made it a 29-21 game on a 13-yard run and successful two-point conversion run at the 7:59 mark of the third quarter. That would be the closest they would get the rest of the game.
WCCA responded with three straight touchdowns over a period of just over two minutes. Sessions had TD runs of five yards at the 7:37 mark and six yards at the 7:14 mark. Then his 27-yard scoring pass to Sessions with 5:35 left in the same quarter gave them a 53-20 lead.
The Cougars scored on a 37-yard fumble return with 8:37 left in the ball game to finish off the scoring.
As a team, the Rams had 295 rushing yards and 394 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, the Cougars were held to just five first downs and 166 yards of total offense.
Grezaffi was the leading tackler for the Rams with eight to go with one sack. Tucker Freeman had six tackles while three players had five tackles apiece — Gauge Metz, Dax Doyle, and Jonathan Meredith. Doyle also had one sack and one fumble recovery while Meredith had two sacks.
WCCA (2-0) plays host to Ben’s Ford Christian School next Friday at 7 p.m.
