NATCHEZ — Coleman Carter threw two touchdown passes and Adrian Walker had a pair of touchdown runs as the Adams County Christian School Rebels cruised to a 41-14 win over the St. Aloysius High School Flashes last Friday night.
For the second week in a row, ACCS had a balanced offensive attack. The Rebels finished with 175 total rushing yards to go with 174 passing yards and did not turn the ball over.
“We just had a much more polished offense,” ACCS assistant coach Matthew Freeman said. “We ran the ball well. Coleman made some good throws. Receivers made some good catches.”
Carter completed seven of 12 passes for 168 yards with 66-yard touchdown pass to Cedric Owens late in the first quarter and a 42-yard touchdown pass to Colton Rabb with 5:16 left in the second quarter.
Owens had two catches for 80 and one touchdown while Rabb had three receptions for 68 yards and one score.
Walker had seven carries for 38 yards, including a three-yard touchdown run with 7:10 to go in the first quarter to get the Rebels on the scoreboard. Sean Kerry Cothern added an eight-yard TD run with 1:10 left in the opening quarter and Tristan Burns capped off a 28-point first quarter with a 19-yard TD run.
Burns was the leading rusher for the Rebels with 47 yards on three carries and one TD. Cothern had six carries for 25 yards and one score.
“The offensive line had real good protection and opened up some holes for the running game,” Freeman said. “One of those games where we tried to spread the wealth.”
ACCS went into halftime up 41-0, which meant a running clock was used for the entire second half. With the Rebels using their second- and third-string players, St. Aloysius kept their starters in to avoid being shut out.
With 10:49 remaining in the game, the Flashes finally got on the scoreboard when Carson Smith ran from one yard out. Thompson Fortenberry then scored on a 35-yard run with 36 seconds left.
The Rebels’ defense held St. Aloysius to just 156 yards of total offense and three first downs. Riley Roach had two forced fumbles, one of which he recovered himself. Kentrell Stampley had other fumble recovery. Leeland Floyd was the leading tackler for ACCS with three.
Next up for ACCS (2-0) is a trip to Flowood to take on the Jackson Preparatory School Patriots next Friday at 7 p.m.
“They’re one of the best programs in the state. It’s going be a challenge for us. We’re looking forward to that challenge,” Freeman said.
Meanwhile, St. Aloysius (0-1) will play host to Cathedral High School next Friday with kickoff at 7 p.m.
