NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Vera Lee Griffin Elery, 84, of Natchez, who died on Monday, Aug. 12, 2024, in Baton Rouge, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the True Love Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jerry Dunbar, Sr., officiating.

Burial will follow at the Sunset View Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Vera was born on Dec. 9, 1939, in Natchez, the daughter of Ameal Griffin, Sr., and Fannie Prater Minor. She was retired and a faithful member of the True Love Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as President of the Mother’s Board. Vera was also a member of the St. Claire Lodge 23, LFC Society. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Deacon Monroe Elery; brothers, James Ferguson, Robert Odom, Ameal Griffin, Curtis Minor, Johnnie Minor, and James Smith; and sisters, Dorothy M. Butler and Shirley Givens.

Vera leaves to cherish her loving memory: sons, Thomas Monroe, Robert James, Kenneth Dale, and Ronnie Edward Elery; daughters, Dorothy Burrell and Fannie L. McClay; sister, Martha R. Cain; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
