The crypto mining business is booming, and Mississippi is making headlines with its latest push. The Greenidge company is no stranger to crypto expansions, as the company was already present in Mississippi and made considerable progress. The crypto arms race is heating up, and each company must do its best to keep up, whereas Greenidge is certainly doing its best. At the beginning of 2024, Greenidge already established its foothold with a spacious 12-acre property, following strict regulations and heavily investing in their crypto operations.

The current 8.5 MW will probably triple in size in the next 12 months, which is astonishing growth for any company. While Greenidge is pushing hard in the Bitcoin mining sphere, the best crypto private sales are happening everywhere in the crypto world. Sam Cooling says getting early on the action or making larger investments is always a valid strategy for any rising early-stage cryptocurrencies traded before public events. Hype, exclusivity, and limited access fuel the price and make certain cryptos more desirable than others.

A mining operation is only as good as its equipment, where Greenidge is using their Antminer S21 Pro, which is among the best in the industry. Specialized crypto miners can produce any cryptocurrency at astonishing rates, and the freshly mined crypto can be used on crypto gambling sites, online shopping, food delivery, expensive trades, crypto exchanges, etc.  Another company specializing in crypto mining is Canaan, notable for its blockchain servers and ASIC microprocessors. Their latest presentation in  Nashville showed off the company’s Avalon series, namely the Avalon Box, Avalon Miner A15 series, and Avalon Nano 3.

The Avalon Miner series, presented in Nashville 2024 aims for similar large-scale industry-grade crypto mining like Greenidge does, while the Avalon Box aims to combine the best of both worlds and appeal to private use. It’s usable on crypto farms and homes, but the Avalon Nano series offers lightweight entry for newcomers and pros. The Canaan company delivered over 11.000 crypto mining systems specializing in Bitcoin mining to the Mawson Infrastructure Group Inc. in the past, and after this recent presentation, it’s safe to say that their US presence will continue to grow.

Crypto mining farms and the competition behind them continue to heat up, as Vicksburg is also throwing its hat in the game with a Bitcoin mining rig. Operating since 2022, MakerStar Capital has hired several workers and made substantial investments in the facility. Crypto farms need plenty of power, space, insulation, and cooling, so any Mississippi operation must adhere to the stick rule and zoning laws from the Mississippi bill, aiming to reduce noise pollution.

Spacier crypto-mining farms produce plenty of noise from processors and cooling systems, so moving them to designated zones away from residential areas was a positive move from the Mississippi government. But what was perhaps the deciding factor in a crypto mining expansion in Mississippi was the China crypto ban in 2021 coupled with relatively favorable electricity prices in Mississippi. Mississippi is currently ranked as the 17th most favorable state with one of the lowest electricity prices in the US, mainly due to its large-scale coal operations.
