NATCHEZ — The commercial buildings at 509-513 Franklin Street were constructed in the 1890s and were home to Feltus Brothers Hardware for most of the 20th century. The Feltus family removed the paint from the brick using restoration chemicals and restored the storefronts in 1980 as part of the Historic Natchez Foundation Storefront Program. Charles Holland was the architect on the project. The upper floor of 513 Franklin Street was later rehabilitated into an apartment as a historic tax credit project with assistance from the Foundation. These pictures are part of a series of before and after photographs that will run in The Natchez Democrat every Wednesday during 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Historic Natchez Foundation.
