Feb. 15, 1936 – July 10, 2024
Sherry Scott Johnson, 88, of Doloroso, MS, died on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at her home.
She was born Sherry Mae Scott in Doloroso in 1936 to Walter Thompson Scott, Sr. and Mary Dawson Scott.
She attended Woodville High School, where she was part of the class of 1954. She then attended Draughn Business School.
Sherry married Joseph “Joe” Johnson, Sr. on Sept. 10, 1955. They built their home less than half a mile from her birthplace and childhood home in Doloroso. Here, they raised their two children, Jennine and Joe D.
One of Sherry’s favorite things was being a grandparent and great-grandparent. She treasured her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved being their “Memaw.” She was a very outgoing person, and she touched the lives of many people throughout her life. Her loved ones will remember her as being warm and affectionate while also being one of the most determined and strong-willed people they knew.
After retiring, her passion for traveling led her to open her own travel agency, JACO Tours, Inc. She spent nearly two decades sharing her love of traveling with her clients before dissolving her business in 2020.
She was an active member of Jefferson Street United Methodist Church and many social clubs.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph “Joe” Johnson, Sr.; her son, Joseph “Joe D.” Johnson, Jr.; and her brother, Walter “Scotty” Scott, Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Jennine Wilson; grandchildren, Joey Wilson (Shelby Riley), Luke Wilson (Katherine Wilson), and Tessa Wilson; great-grandchildren, Stella Wilson, Ava Wilson, Tenley Wilson, Reese Wilson, Audrey Wilson, Levi Wilson, Hunter Wilson, and Henry Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
