WOODVILLE – James Dennis Vines, Jr., was born in Wilkinson County, MS, on Sept. 18, 1946. He passed away at his home on July 16, 2024. Services were held on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Woodville Baptist Church with Bro. Warren Whitaker II officiating under the direction of Newman Funeral Home. James was a member of Woodville Baptist Church.
James was a dedicated servant to others his entire life.
He graduated from Woodville Attendance Center. In 1972, James graduated from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy. In 1984, he was selected to attend the FBI National Academy at Quantico, VA. He was named Captain of Troop M of the Mississippi Highway Patrol. James retired after 32 years of service.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Vines McMillan and James Dennis Vines, and his sisters, Lora Lee Vines Mims, Christine Vines Jackson, and Betty Ann Vines Nettles.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Deborah Kee Vines; son, Chadwick James Vines; daughter, Michelle Lyman Vines Didier and her husband, John Daniel Didier Jr.; grandchildren, Merill Elizabeth Didier and Owen Daniel Didier. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Enloe Mays Kee III, and his wife, Toni Jones Kee.
Serving as active pallbearers are Eddie Sellers, Jeff Roberts, Rusty Boyd, Phillip Temples, Scott Wesberry, and Trey Spinks.
Honorary pallbearers are Jennings McCurley, Gary Austin, Jessie Stuart, Charles “Gabby” Smith, Nolan Bland, Jerome Curro, Emmit Knighton, Dr. Bob Lewis, and Dr. Jennings Owens.
Memorials may be made to Woodville Baptist Church or Wilkinson County Christian Academy.
