Laurietta is a federal-style plantation house just outside Fayette, constructed circa 1825. It had been abandoned and was in great disrepair when it was purchased by Tere and Mac Thomas of New Iberia, Louisiana, in 2006. The original mantelpieces and other parts of the house were in storage at the Historic Natchez Foundation after they had been removed to protect them from theft. The Thomases completed a meticulous three-year restoration, including replicating original decorative finishes. The Historic Natchez Foundation completed the National Register of Historic Places nomination and historic tax credits application for the project. These pictures are part of a series of before and after photographs that will run in The Natchez Democrat every Wednesday during 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Historic Natchez Foundation.
