NATCHEZ — Four people, ranging in age from 18 to 27, who were riding in a 2011 white Toyota Camry Wednesday night reported to Natchez Police that passengers shot at them from a black vehicle at about 9:20 p.m.

Natchez Police Commander Jerry Ford confirmed the four people in the Camry returned fire at those in the black vehicle.

Three from the Camry received injuries and were treated and released at Merit Health Natchez.

“The four subjects said they were stopped at the four-way stop sign at George F. West Boulevard and West Stiers. As they pulled up at the stop sign, the black vehicle turned onto Davis Street. As the Camry made the right turn onto West Stiers, they heard gunfire coming in their direction,” Ford said.

One of the passengers in the Camry, age 28, was struck in the heel of his foot. The driver, 21, was hit in the left arm and one of his fingers. Another male passenger in the Camry, age 20, was uninjured. The lone female in the car, age 18, who the vehicle belonged to, sustained injuries from glass shattered during the gunfire.

“They stated that they returned fire at the black vehicle that was shooting at them to get away. At that time, they turned onto another street where they could call 911 and get assistance from police,” Ford said. “They could not give us a good description of the vehicle or the tag number on the car. We are still investigating and trying to make sense of what they are telling us. They described the black car as a small sedan, but we have not verified that.”

All victims were treated and released Wednesday night at Merit Health Natchez.
