NATCHEZ — Mark Elliott McCann, born December 8, 1960, in Natchez, passed away on June 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was the cherished son of the late Bruce and Janet McCann.

Mark was a 1978 graduate of Cathedral Catholic School where he devoted 32 years to teaching and coaching.

Mark was a man of immense devotion, known widely as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, coach, teacher, and friend. He possessed a remarkable ability to connect with people, never knowing a stranger and finding joy in every encounter.

Throughout his 32-year career at Cathedral Catholic School, Mark dedicated himself passionately to education and coaching, impacting countless students both in and out of the classroom. His commitment to nurturing young minds and fostering growth extended far beyond mere academics; he instilled in his students the values of perseverance, sportsmanship, and integrity.

Mark’s love for teaching and coaching was matched only by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife and a pillar of strength and support to his children and grandchildren. His wisdom, kindness, and unwavering encouragement will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched.

In addition to his professional and familial roles, Mark was an active member of his community, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. His impact on the lives of others is a testament to his generous spirit and genuine compassion.

Mark leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and dedication. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the countless individuals whose lives he enriched.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Pam; children, Jessie (Marc) Wallace and Elliott (Elizabeth) McCann; grandchildren Blake (Jessica) Wallace, Kayla (Cullen) Smith, Reilly Frances Wallace, Parker McCann, and Faye McCann;  great-grandchildren Wrenlee Rae Wallace and Ella Jax Smith; brothers Tim (Stacy) McCann and Charlie (Nita) McCann; mother-in-law Helen Flowers; sister-in-law Lynn Flowers; brothers-in-law Kevin (Mary) Flowers and Allen (Beth) Flowers; niece Lauren (Austin) Helus; nephews Michael Flowers, Stephen (Lindsay) Flowers, Charlie (Kristin) Flowers, Joseph Flowers, and Alex McCann; great nephew JT Helus; honorary family members Jared, Catherine, and Lily Mae McPhate; a special friend Debra Colston; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who were fortunate to have known him.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Andrew Beesley, Craig Beesley, Luke Bradley, Tom Granning, Wright Graning, Austin Helus, Ethan Lloyd, Josh Loy, Mike Norris, Kurt Russ, Taylor Strahan, and Nic Webb.

A funeral mass to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at St. Mary Basilica on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at 10 a.m. A visitation will begin at 9 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cathedral Catholic School, St. Mary Basilica, or a charity of your choice in honor of Mark’s memory and his lifelong commitment to education and community.
