NATCHEZ — Approximately 1,200 customers in Natchez and Adams County are without electric power this morning, thanks to a line of thunderstorms that made their way through the area on Monday night.

Most of those still without power are located in the county and are Southwest Electric customers. Entergy Mississippi is reporting isolated cases of customers without power here.

A large tree fell across Morgantown Road near 395 Morgantown Road at approximately 11:30 p.m. Monday, completely blocking the roadway during the storm. Adams County Road Department personnel had the tree removed and traffic flowing within an hour, said Robert Bradford, Adams County Emergency Management Director. He urged Adams County residents to prepare for this busy storm season.

“We will experience summer-like temperatures for the next several days and have a lot of storms coming through. We are going to keep an eye on it and if the temperatures get too high and we have power outages, we will open the Safe Room. We have those plans in place,” Bradford said.

He encouraged Adams County residents to sign up for the county’s new Hyper-Reach Emergency Alert System. The county is ending its contract with CodeRed and residents will need to sign up with Hyper-Reach to continue receiving emergency communications. To sign up, text the word “alerts” to 601-308-8999 and follow the instructions in response to your text.

“Hurricane season is just starting and people must stay mindful of weather and other emergencies,” Bradford said.
