NATCHEZ – Funeral services for Artie Polk Ellis, 84, of Natchez, who departed this earthly life on Tuesday, May 20, 2024, in Natchez will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with Father Anthony Okwum officiating.
Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from 4:30 until 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home and will continue on Thursday, May 23, 2024, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Artie was born May 22, 1939, in Natchez, the daughter of Pearl Vanison O’Bryant Reynolds and Artie Jamison. She was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson High School and attended Co-Lin College. Artie retired from Jefferson Davis Memorial Hospital after serving 35 years. Mrs. Ellis was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was a reader. She was also a member of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and National Negro Council. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ellis; her parents; son, Patrick Henderson and sisters, Marsheen Givens and Grace Loving.
Artie leaves to cherish her memories: two daughters, Vanessa Polk Greene and Stella Polk; son, Walter Polk III; eight grandchildren, Patrick Henderson, Jr., Michael Henderson, Jillian Henderson, Mechelle Greene, Frank Polk, Iesha Frye, Randy Ellis, Jr. and Sam Bradford; 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
