NATCHEZ — Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten has an urgent request for Adams County residents: “Please put your chainsaws down.”
The storm that rolled through Natchez and Adams County Thursday night into Friday morning toppled dozens of trees and took down numerous power lines. Those lines, which are now intermingled within downed tree limbs, are still live with electricity, the sheriff said.
“We are aware of trees that are covering roadways throughout the county. Residents are trapped in their neighborhoods and are out there with their chainsaws trying to clear the roads. Please do not do that. It’s not safe,” Patten said.
“The Adams County Road Department crews will be working to clear the road as soon as power company workers are able to cut the power to live lines. Until it happens, it’s unsafe. Please have patience,” the sheriff said.
