NATCHEZ – Mississippi’s State Games for Special Olympics begin Friday and continue through Sunday at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.
The Special Olympics Torch arrived in Natchez Thursday morning, where a group of Area 7 Special Olympians and Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies carried it through downtown Natchez beginning at the Bluff, taking it up Franklin Street to Rankin, across Rankin Street to Main, and continuing to run with it down Main back to the bandstand area of the Bluff.
The Area 7 Special Olympians from Natchez will carry the torch with them to Biloxi to compete this weekend.
Adams County Sheriff’s Deputy Percy Perry had the honor of carrying the Torch through downtown Natchez.
Adams County Sheriff’s Major Buddy Frank, who volunteers with the Special Olympics Torch Run each year, gave a special thank you to the Natchez Walmart Supercenter, who he said goes above and beyond in donating to the Natchez Area 7 Special Olympians, as well as the annual Torch Run.
