WOODVILLE — The Wilkinson County Christian Academy Rams held on for a 9-6 win at home over the Riverdale Academy Rebels last Friday afternoon to take this 2024 MAIS Class 2A South State Playoffs series two games to none.
Yet despite the win, WCCA head coach Kyle White said the Rams didn’t play as well as they should have — especially after the District 3-2A No. 2 seed disposed of the District 4-2A No. 3 seed Riverdale Academy Rebels 12-2 last Tuesday afternoon in the best-of-three series opener.
WCCA (no overall record available) advances to take on District 4-2A champion and No. 1 seed Claiborne Academy in the Class 2A South State Semifinals. Game 1 was actually scheduled to take place last Monday afternoon at WCCA, but because of the inclement weather that hit much of the region, there ended up being a change in days, times and locations for the entire series.
Game 1 was pushed back a day to Tuesday at 4 p.m. with the game taking place at Claiborne Academy in Haynesville, La. Because of that, the two teams ended up playing a doubleheader there with Game 2 taking place about 30 minutes after the completion of Game 1.
Then tying to figure out when Game 3, if necessary, would take place if the series would be tied at one game apiece between WCCA and Claiborne Academy.
“State tennis is on Wednesday. State track meet is Friday and Saturday,” White said.
And because of that, Game 3 would take place on Thursday at 4 p.m. at WCCA if one of these teams did not sweep the other on Tuesday.
