NATCHEZ — The MAIS Class 5A Adams County Christian School Rebels fared well against one of the top teams in Class 4A in Canton Academy, but the Panthers prevailed 7-3 last Tuesday afternoon in ACCS’s regular-season finale.

Losing pitcher Coleman Carter struggled on the mound against a good-hitting Canton Academy team. Even though Carter himself did not allow a base hit, he gave up two unearned runs, walked one, and hit one batter.

Carter did hit a home run for the Rebels and Tyson Young had a double. Sean Kerry Cothern had a single.

“Coleman didn’t record an out. I took him out and brought in Colton Rabb,” ACCS head coach Jake Winston said. “Colton threw two innings. Canton Academy is a pretty competitive team. I expect them to make a deep run in their classification. They have a couple of kids who are already committed to play at the next level, so they’re a pretty good ball club.”

ACCS (6-17), the No. 4 seed out of District 4-5A, will take on the District 3-5A No. 3 seed next week in the first round of the MAIS Class 5A South State Playoffs. Winston said that opponent is yet to be determined because Silliman Institute is taking on Oak Forest Academy this week with the District 3-5A title at stake.

ACCS 16, Providence Classical Academy 0 (4 innings)

BOSSIER CITY, La. — Winning pitcher Levi Beesley helped his own cause by hitting two doubles as the ACCS Rebels took care of the Providence Classical Academy Knights 16-0 in four innings in what was ACCS’s MAIS District 4-5A finale for the 2024 season.

In addition to Beesley’s two two-baggers, Coleman Carter hit a triple while Tristan Burns and Donovan Ryan each had a double of their own. But even with the win to complete the series sweep, ACCS still couldn’t move up in the district standings.

“We finished in fourth place. We missed the three seed by one game, if it holds out the way it’s looking now,” Rebels head coach Jake Winston said. “It was just a great way to finish district off. The boys came out with a lot of energy and intensity. I’m glad they finished district off on a high note moving into the playoffs next week.”

The Rebels improved to 6-16 overall and finished with a district record of 5-7.
