NATCHEZ – Our wonderful mom, grandmother (Mama Dot), and matriarch Doris Spinks Goldman passed away Monday, March 25, 2024, surrounded by her family in Jackson, MS at the age of 99.
She was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Cornelia, GA to Annie and Frank Barden as the middle child of nine children, all deceased before her. Claudine, Lee, Tootsie, James, Lena, Bill, Dan, and Mary Ann were her beloved siblings.
She is survived by one beloved sister-in-law, Jane (Bill) Barden. She married Yonnie Norman Spinks on June 25, 1945, and made their home in Vidalia, LA until Norman’s death on Nov. 30, 1967. They had four children together: Norman Harrison (Celie), Robert Lee (Diane), Edwin Lamar (Delores), and Deborah Lynn (deceased Sept. 1, 2001) (Doug).
She married M. A. Goldman in April 1969 and became the stepmother to Jerry (deceased)(Bet) (deceased), Jimmy (Carolyn), Danny (Pam), Glen (deceased), and Mary Faye (Mike).
Doris was a Proverbs 31 woman who loved the Lord and was an active member of Parkway Baptist Church until age and illnesses prevented her from attending.
She is survived by well over 100 nieces and nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her grandsons will serve as her pallbearers.
Visitation will be at noon and service at 1 p.m. at Laird Funeral Home and internment in Greenlawn Memorial Park on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
