NATCHEZ – Memorial services for John Lee Nelson, 86, of Westchester, IL, formerly of Jefferson County, MS, who departed this earthly life on Nov. 5, 2023, in Jefferson County will be held on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Greater Mt. Bethel Baptist Church.

Private burial will be held at a later date under the direction of West Gate Funeral Home.

John was born Nov. 1, 1938, in Jefferson County, the son of Camilla Davis Nelson and Herman Lee Nelson, Sr. He was a graduate of Sadie V. Thompson and attended Jackson State College. John was a retired manager of the Distribution Center-Brach’s Candy. Mr. Nelson was a member of Greater Mt. Bethel Baptist Church and also attended Living Word Christian Center in Forest Park. His hobbies included golfing, bowling, camping, and boating.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tommie Nelson, Jr. and Lee Van Nelson; sisters, Genora Dorsey, Dorothy Burnside, and Patricia Johnson; sons, Rene Nelson, and John Bates; daughter, Linda Clayton; grandparents, John and Roberta Nelson and Henderson and Genora Davis.

His life will forever be cherished in the lives of: sons, Stanley Clayton and Andre Nelson, Sr. (Vena); daughters, Cherryl Easter (James), LaShawn Wallace (Ted), and Stephanie Moses; brothers, Henderson Nelson (Linda St. Julien) and Herman Lee Nelson, Sr. (Linda Faye); sisters, Canary Grantham (Napoleon) and Shirley Hunt (Clinton), other relatives and friends.
