LAFAYETTE, LA – Audrey Lynn Fowler Martin, born on Sept. 7, 1942, in Natchez, Mississippi, to Sidney Albert Fowler and Mary Allen Fowler, passed away on March 11, 2024. She dedicated her life to education.
Audrey graduated in 1960 from Sadie V. Thompson High School. She pursued higher education at Southern University and The University of Southwestern Louisiana, earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Audrey’s teaching career spanned over three decades. She taught Speech and English at various schools and served as the head of the English department at Northside High School. Audrey retired in 1997 after 31 years of service but continued her commitment to education at the VITA Reading Center for 18 years.
Audrey was an active member of Trinity CME Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Earl Martin, and her son, Trevor L. Martin.
Audrey is survived by her sons, Eric Fowler and Errol Martin, and her daughter, Lauren Martin Carter. She also has grandchildren and numerous beloved relatives and friends.
Services for Ms. Martin are in charge of Kinchen Funeral Home.
Viewing will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the funeral on Friday, March 22, 2024, at Trinity CME Church, 604 Lee Avenue in Lafayette, LA. Burial to follow at Fountain Memorial in Lafayette.
