This photograph of the Hotel Duffy, formerly known as the Southern Hotel and the Corinna Hotel, was taken in 1967, two years after the fire in 1965 that destroyed the nearby Natchez Democrat building. The hotel was demolished not long after this picture was taken and its site is today a parking lot. The movie marquee visible on the right of the photograph advertises the movie playing at the Baker Grand Theatre, which was demolished in the early 1970s. The wanton demolition of historic buildings in the 1960s and early1970s played a major role in the founding of the Historic Natchez Foundation in 1974.
