The house at 314 N. Rankin St. was built between 1836 and 1840 for real estate developer and merchant Cyrus Marsh. The one-and-a-half-story residence sits on a partially raised brick basement and is distinguished by its beautifully detailed front and rear doorways. The house was in great disrepair when it was acquired by actor George Hamilton, who later donated it to the Historic Natchez Foundation in 1991. In 1992, the Foundation conveyed the house to Dr. Barry and Teri Tillman, who restored it as their family home. The Tillmans also restored the two neighboring Queen Anne cottages on North Rankin Street and a townhouse on High Street. These pictures are part of a series of before and after photographs that will run in The Natchez Democrat every Wednesday during 2024 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Historic Natchez Foundation.
