FLOWOOD — There was one game involving a local high school varsity baseball team that was not postponed or canceled due to last Monday afternoon’s thunderstorms — Adams County Christian School at MAIS Class 6A powerhouse Jackson Preparatory School.

ACCS head coach Jake Winston scheduled this game so his team would take on one of the top teams not only in the state, but in the entire nation and on the road in a hostile environment.

However, the game only lasted three innings as the Jackson Prep Patriots took it to the ACCS Rebels 16-0.

“They’re a really good ball club and they do things the right way,” Winston said. “They’re the best team in the state and they’re the No. 19 team in the country. I wanted to take them up there and let them compete against the best in the state.”

It didn’t take long for Jackson Prep to take control of this match-up. The Patriots put up eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, highlighted by a two-run home run by Konnor Griffin. They added five runs in the bottom of the second inning and three runs in the bottom of the third.

Kevin Roberts was the winning pitcher for Jackson Prep. Colton Rabb was charged with the loss for ACCS after he gave up eight runs, four of them earned, on four hits and three walks with just one strikeout in one inning.

The Rebels fell to 1-6 overall. They are scheduled to play at Centreville Academy on Friday with the junior varsity game at 4:30 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m., if the weather permits.
