RAYMOND — It was a good weekend for Natchez High School’s varsity baseball team as the Bulldogs swept a varsity doubleheader from the Provine High School Rams last Friday afternoon 8-0 and 14-0 and then took care of the Raymond High School Rangers 14-5 last Saturday afternoon.
In the win over Raymond which capped off Natchez High’s 3-0 weekend, the Bulldogs scored in each of the first six innings, including three runs to start off the game and four runs in the top of the third inning which gave them a 9-1 lead.
The Rangers tried to make a comeback as they scored four runs in the bottom of the third inning to make it a 9-5 game. However, the Bulldogs responded by plating two runs in the top of the fourth inning, one run in the top of the fifth, and two runs in the top of the sixth.
Natchez High finished with eight base hits while taking advantage of 10 walks issued by Raymond pitching as well as four errors.
Jaylin Neal went 2-for-2 with one run batted in and three runs scored. Mason Bouldin was 2-for-4 with two doubles, one RBI and three runs scored while Jamarius Bell went 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored.
Natchez High (6-1) once again traveled to Raymond High School to take on the Rangers on Monday with the junior varsity game at 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 6 p.m. Head coach Dan Smith said he did not know which team would be the home team for that match-up.
Then on Tuesday, the Bulldogs played host to Cathedral High School for their first official home game of the season at the recently-renovated Chester Willis Field with the JV game at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

JACKSON — In a most unusual to defeat an opponent not once but twice, the Natchez High Bulldogs defeated the Provine High School Rams 8-0 and 14-0 in a varsity doubleheader last Friday afternoon.
What was odd about it was that Natchez High had no hits in the first game and only two hits in the second game. In its 8-0 win in Game 1, the Bulldogs took advantage of eight errors and four walks.
Martavis Woods and Jaylin Davis each pitched one inning and combined for a no-hitter. Woods walked one batter while Davis struck out the side.
In the Bulldogs’ 14-0 win, which also lasted just two innings, they scored 12 runs in the top of the first inning. Woods had the big hit of the frame with a three-run triple. The only other hit was a single by Drylon Scott. Jaylin Neal pitched one inning, gave up no hits, and struck out two batters.
Even though the Rams cleaned up their act defensively and committed no errors in the second game, their three pitchers helped out the Bulldogs by walking a combined 11 batters.
